Diff whine when unloaded is usually due to the crown wheel and pinion gear meshing incorrectly. This could be caused by general wear, worn bearing or incorrectly adjusted if its been rebuilt. Not necessarily a major issue and depending on the exact cause could be pretty cheap to sort.

If your not happy with having ago at a rebuild yourself look up Nigel Barker at Xcess4x4.com He usually does upgrades and diff mods but I’m sure he could get it sorted if required.
