        Hi, all.

I’ve been lurking around as a visitor for a while now. My wife is a midwife so I’ve heard about 4×4 Response groups in the past. I’m from Basingstoke and I’ve recently bought a Land Rover Freelander [sadly, I just missed out on the snow].

I’d like to sign up as a responder but wanted to ask some questions about the vehicle requirements if possible?

The car has no towbar at the moment but I will be getting one fitted soon for stuff I do with Scouts so rear is covered, but what do people do about the requirement for a front recovery point? I know the requirements say this isn’t always possible but I wanted to know how important this is and whether I should be looking into options for adding a recovery point on the front?

Once I can get the car up to spec then I will be registering with the group properly.

        Many thanks,

        Richard

          Hi Richard

Welcome to the group. The only requirement with regards to recovery points is for each vehicle to have one suitable recovery point. Fitting a tow hitch to the rear will cover this, it is not necessary to fit a front one if you don’t wish too.

If you choose too, there are a number of Freelander owners on here who can advise what is available. More importantly you need to equip yourself with the additional basic equipment that you carry, these would include items such as a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, appropriately rated recovery strops and shackles etc.

Any questions please ask away :D

Thanks Phil. Other kit I think I have covered, it was really the front I was interested in. Hopefully another Freelander owner might see this and chip in.

              Cheers,

              Richard

                Hi Richard,

                Welcome on board.

If you have a Freelander 2 like mine, as far as I know, they all have f0r0ont recovery points. I’m not sure about the Freelander 1’s, but I think they do as well.

Having had a freelancer 1 I can say they bo have a towing point on front near side of your car, this may be covered by a small bit of valance. Or you could do the full CT thing

                      Thanks Mark.

I’ve got a facelift Freelander 1. I do have a fitted front tow loop on mine, however, when I was reading the Vehicle Requirements page, it said that these were not suitable.

The Manual does not say much.
